We all know the story. You’re in pain. It pulses through your body, throbbing out of
control at times.
So what do you do? What’s the first thing you or your doctor do to treat your pain?
They prescribe you pills, or you self medicate with pain medication. You pop a few, and if
your tolerance isn’t sky high…the rush of relief can be quick and almost intoxicating.
The pain goes away. Then it comes back. The same dull, intense throbbing pain that makes
you want to bite your own arm to distract from it. So what do you do?
You reach for the pills, the only thing that can help.
You feel great again. The pain comes back and you repeat the process until the pain is gone
for good.
Or is it gone?
The truth is, pain pills never truly help. Now, sure they offer a temporary respite. But
help, no.
You see, these pills, or "miracles in a bottle"…have you playing a desperate and dangerous
game.
And I’m not referring to horse tranquilizers, or the "super-sized" pain killers NFL football
players use. We’re talking about the very pills prescribed, or available over the counter,
like candy from a Pez dispenser:
Are you taking one of these?
- Vicodin/Hydrocodone
- OxyContin/Darvocet
- Hydrocortisone/Prednisone
- Celebrex
- Aleve
- Skelaxin
- Aspirin
- Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
- Ibuprofen (Advil)
If you are, you should know that these drugs have repeatedly proven dangerous for your heart,
stomach, intestines & kidneys... Some are addictive, like Oxycontin. This one has been
proven to be more dangerous and addictive than hardcore illegal drugs!.
So what are your alternatives?
Obviously, these medications can be helpful in extreme cases where the pain is not otherwise
manageable. However, the viable alternative to pain pills is a Chiropractic Physician. They
are fully educated in the evaluation and treatment of the source of your pain. Chiropractors
can offer a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive approach: Safe, effective joint mobilization,
physical therapy, massage, exercise training and rehabilitation, and nutrition. Either one
or several of these treatment are a powerful, effective way of managing pain, recovering from
injuries, etc…
Make a promise to yourself: The next time you grab for the pill bottle when experiencing
pain, consult a Chiropractor to remain drug-free and protect your health from unnecessary
harm.
